The world No.1 arrived in Nice on Thursday, July 20, 2023, and is preparing for his Hopman Cup debut alongside compatriot Rebeka Masarova. The Wimbledon-winning Spaniard will meet the Belgian team of Elise Mertens and David Goffin on center court at 4pm on Friday July 21, 2023.

“We’re delighted that Carlos has arrived in Nice, and that he’ll be able to demonstrate the extent of his talent to the Hopman Cup public!” confided Kristoff Puelinckx, CEO & founder of Tennium.

The second day of competition saw the entry of three teams yet to play: Croatia (Donna Vekic & Borna Coric), Belgium (Elise Mertens & David Goffin) and the French team (Alizé Cornet & Richard Gasquet). On court N°1, Croatia met Belgium, and offered us some passionate exchanges. In the end, it was the mixed doubles that decided the tie. Croatia came out on top.

On center court, the French met the Danes. In the women’s singles, Alizé lost the first set, but hung in there and created doubt in her opponent Clara Tauson. Alizé came back in the second set. Unfortunately, she lost to Tauson.

For his part, Richard remained focused from start to finish. Holger made a lot of unforced errors. Richard served well and applied himself. He held on for both sets, and won. The decisive match was the mixed doubles, which ended in victory for the French.

“I managed to play a good match and win, that’s the main thing. I felt good on the court, and I’m very happy to be playing here in Nice. It was a good match for me, and I played a good double. We started badly, but then we managed to play well. There were a lot of people around and it was really cool to play with Alizé”, Richard Gasquet.

“I really enjoyed playing with Richard, we made some great adjustments in the first set that enabled us to turn things around, and we won by playing really well. The same went for the second. We had a feeling they weren’t far off, but we held on. I love mixed doubles and it was a great moment,” says Alizé Cornet.
