Ukraine is the first team to advance to the Hopman Cup 2016 final, following wins from Elina Svitolina and Alexandr Doglopov against Australia Gold opponents Jarmila Wolfe and Lleyton Hewitt.
With Ukraine featuring in the Hopman Cup final for the first time in 21 years, Svitolina and Dolgopolov have also claimed every other singles match they’ve contested this week, with earlier wins over USA and the Czech Republic ensuring a 3-0 clean sweep in Group A.
The 21-year-old Svitolina got the team off to a winning start as she defeated Wolfe 6-3 6-3. Dolgopolov followed in a composed performance against Hewitt, who is contesting his eighth and final Hopman Cup.
Dolgopolov was pleased to recover from an opening set deficit in his first career meeting with Hewitt.”When you come on court with Hewitt, you know he’s going to fight,” he said. “I’m happy I didn’t give it away.”
