Laura Robson
Courtside
Ladies and gentlemen dare I say a star is born – Laura Robson. Laura that seemed a nerveless performance, was that the case?
Yeah I was pretty nervous in the end but I just tried to keep going for my shots. It was pretty convenient that the only match I won was in the finals so I’m happy.
That was nerveless not nervous. You had so much poise there. What’s going on inside your mind at the moment? You must be absolutely delighted.
Yeah I’m really happy and I thought I played well. Especially in the first set - I completely dominated. I’m just really happy at the moment and I hope Andy can go out there and win.
Should we have a look at that complete domination in the first set? Some of your winners on the big screen – you did go out and you just attacked. You were making winners weren’t you? You hit 12 I think before the end of the first set.
Well I think the key in the first set was I returned a lot better and then I had a higher first serve percentage, so she was struggling on her serves going down line.
And overall in the second set were you happy with the way you finished it off? I mean 5 match points - you must have been feeling a little bit of pressure there even though she was going for her shots and was making them?
Well from when I was 6-3 up from then on she just started going for her shots, especially when I was serving. Her returns were really deep and hard for me to hit. When it went 6 all I was like ‘Ok just go for your shots’.
It was unbelievable. Now you said before that mum sitting up there lives and breathes your matches. She was living and breathing it today I think. I’m sure she wants to give you a big hug. What would she be saying to you in a minute?
Um she’s be saying ‘Laura why’d you get so nervous?’
Does this confidence come from her or dad?
Dad.
And now you’ve put the pressure back on Andy Murray in a sense haven’t you, because if he wins you win the diamonds.
Well hopefully I can get some diamonds today. I think he’s got a really good chance of winning. If he plays as well as he did yesterday then he’s got an even better chance.
And what about a message for your grandparents watching at home, and perhaps the people in Great Britain who were sitting and watching you at 15 years - your 16 in a couple of weeks, that’s a nice present. What would your message be to them? I’m sure they’ve got one for you.
I think everyone in London is sleeping.
You know what, having read the number of piles in the Guardian this morning, I don’t think so. I think they’d be watching. Congratulations, what an amazing performance. Absolutely terrific.
