Ladies and gentlemen, not for nothing, he is no. 4 in the world. What a clinic from Andy Murray.
Andy I know you’re a modest man but you’ve got to be quite pleased with your own performance there.
Yeah I played really well. I didn’t make too many mistakes. I got off to a good start in all of the matches this week which helps and settled me down a little bit. Today was definitely the best I’ve played so far.
You were only out there for fifty minutes but you’ve worked up a good sweat. It’s a bit warmer here than it is in Dunblane.
Yeah just a little bit. I spoke to my mum yesterday, its -9 back home, so it’s slightly different.
With respect to Igor, what can you take out of a match like that when you were going along so comfortably? What are you looking to achieve?
Well you’ve just got to keep going for your shots and try a few things out against the net quite a lot at the start of the match. I started playing really aggressive on return of serve and everything went well. I was just happy that all the things I worked on practice court were good today.
Have a look at possibly one of the points of the tournament so far. Early in the match, a great serve, you got one of the gets of the Hopman Cup 22. Remember this one?
I don’t know I just kind of reacted, I was juts kind of expecting it to go there. Normally you try and bounce it into the fence but he it quite well and...
It was a bad call from the line and they nearly took it away from me but lucky we’ve got the Hawke eye.
And your own serving performance today – how would you rate that? Where are you at with your serve?
Yeah first serve is going really well and getting the second serve kicking up quite a lot, these courts bounce really high. Only been broken once in the 3 matches so far and yeah, it’s all good.
Now the mixed doubles is still very important – you may need it to progress to the final. You and Laura seem to have a good combination going. What are you looking for?
Yeah it’s going to be tough. Obviously Elena is one of the best returners in the world and the return in the mixed doubles is very important. It’s important that we both serve well but we played well the first two matches. If we can both play a good match we’ve still got a chance of getting into the final.
More importantly, how’s the sunburn on the back?
Yeah its fine now but I got burnt on my arms yesterday, so I’m not putting enough cream on obviously.
