Courtside
Ladies and gentlemen a perfect record in singles for Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez – 3 singles wins from 3 matches. Can you again show your appreciation?
In a sense, Maria Jose, you have silenced the crowd beating the home favourite. You must be very pleased with your form so far?
Yes of course. I think that this tournament is a great preparation for me for the Aussie Open and I’m so happy. What can I say?
Why are you in such good form for the first few matches of the year? You really haven’t put a foot wrong.
Well it is not easy at the beginning of the year to play like this. In the pre-season I worked too much, I suffered. Too much yes.
Well lest have a look at some of your play. The back end of the first set, I think this really characterised your play and your coach said almost everything you try is coming off. Is that how it feels out there? Do you feel very comfortable?
Yes well I like the risk and I like to play like this always.
And another demonstration of that volley, you have very good hands. Is that something that you’ve worked on or is that just natural? Were you born with good hands?
I think that it’s natural, yes.
So you’re going to get a shot at the diamond encrusted balls now. You’re into the final. How does that make you feel?
Well I feel great, just great. Thank you very much to all of the people for coming.
And the support from Tommy Robredo was good too. He’s in good condition and in great form.
Yes he is the better one, it’s his third year here and he makes me stronger.
If you had one wish for 2010 what would it be? One wish for this year.
One wish. Um I don’t know – play good this year.
Well you’ve made a good start to that. Congratulations. Three singles wins – good luck in the final. Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
