Samantha Stosur
Courtside

Ladies and gentlemen, you’re commanding winner, Sam Stosur. That’s got to be a better feeling?

Yeah for sure, it’s a lot better walking off the court a winner than a loser. I thought I played pretty well today so very happy.

It was a dynamic start and you seemed to hit he ball very crisply. Did you get the improvement you were looking for?

Yeah for sure, actually I thought I didn’t play too bad the other day, I just didn’t finish it off. Today I definitely wanted to make sure that if I got that lead then I was able to close it out and I thought I played pretty well from the first point to the last point.

Let’s have a look at some of your serving because it was tremendous, 14 aces in total. Did you do some work on your serve between day one and today?

Not really, just the usual few serves but I have been working on it the last few months. I think I’m starting to see the improvement and consistency regularly. So I’m very happy that that’s the case.

You’ve mixed it up today and quite unpredictable on serves, did you feel that?

Yeah I tried to mix up where I was going, I thought I hit the corners pretty well. I also tried to serve into her body a little bit more and keep her guessing. I think it worked pretty well.

So now to the mixed doubles. I suppose all the focus at the moment is on singles and getting ready for the Australian Open. Have you had a chance to talk to Lleyton about the mixed and today?

No not yet but hopefully he can play well against John and we can kind of relax a little bit more than what we were the first day. I’m sure after having one match together now, we’ll have a bit more of a feel. We’ll be able to play a little bit better and really enjoy it out there.

And I’m sure that will be good for your confidence, such a good win in the singles.

Yeah for sure, I’m feeling really good now so just looking forward to the mixed and hopefully can keep going.

We look forward to seeing you then. Sam Stosur.
