Laura Robson and Andy Murray (Great Britain)
Courtside
Ladies and gentlemen can you pay your respects for some outrageously good entertainment from the combatants. Slava, so close there, so much tension. 0 – 5 in the first set, I guess you didn’t think that you would have a finish like that.
(Shvedova) Yes because I was a little bit cooled down after my singles and it was a little bit tough. Andrey was a bit tired and I was tired and we didn’t expect that at all at the beginning of that match.
How was your heart going in the last couple of games there? You were that close.
(Shvedova) No I am fine because I had already experienced playing before this match - match points coming back, match points coming to me, match points going back. I had experienced it so now I am not nervous. I am just playing like all the balls.
Did you enjoy tonight? Both your matches?
(Shvedova) Yeah I really enjoyed it and hope everyone enjoyed it. It was fun.
Thank you Slava. Andrey, first of all your singles match, what would you take out of that against the number 4 player in the world?
(Golubev) Of course it was a good test for me because I don’t play everyday against guys in the top ten. So this time I want to get something new to me to improve my game.
And what about this mixed doubles? You had plenty of trick shots there, you came back from that first set deficit and you were that close. You obviously thought you could win it there in the last few games. You were coming home strongly.
(Golubev) Yeah, first it was strange it was 5 – 0 in like ten minutes. I didn’t understand what happened. But with mixed doubles you never know what happens. We tried to give our best to play points then see what happens on the court.
Well you played brilliantly tonight, both of you, congratulations for a terrific performance. Ladies and gentlemen form Kazakhstan, Yaroslava Shvedova and Andrey Golubev.
Can you put your hands together for the victors tonight from Great Britain. Fifteen year old Laura Robson, really at home on the big stage, and the world number 4 Andy Murray.
Come over here Laura. Well how’s the heart after that? There was plenty in that, plenty of tension.
(Robson) Yeah. I’m kind of proud of my volleys in the tie-break. Those were the only ones I made, so.
You hit some great winners prior to that, some superb shots before that. You did perform tonight at times.
(Robson) At times? Yeah?
Well just being a realistic observer, but what will you take out of the evening?
(Robson) Um, that I should work more on my serve and that we should communicate more so then he doesn’t hit me.
Now you have some family here this evening, you’ve brought some with you, what relatives are here?
(Robson) Ok, so we’ve got: aunty, cousin, cousin, aunty, uncle, cousin and then there’s Glen and mum of course. And then “Hi Gran and Grandad”, they’re watching at home.
Fifteen, no shortage of confidence really. A question about the expectation though, I might ask Andy about this one – he’s probably given you some advice. Great Britain, they love the winners don’t they? How are you coping with that on the way up because the Wimbledon juniors are crazy, last year was crazy as well. How are you going to cope with that over the next few years?
(Robson) Um, well he hasn’t given me any advice but I don’t really pay attention to any of the media malarkey and what not.
Malarkey?
(Robson) That’s the only word I could come up with.
Not bad. It’s going to be a hell of a journey, it is already isn’t it?
(Robson) Yeah, well hopefully I’ll keep getting better so then there will be more media stuff to come.
Well congratulations...
(Robson) He’s laughing at me!
... on your performance tonight. Laura Robson, ladies and gentlemen.
Andy Murray, just at the start could I turn your attention to the big screen. I think we’ve got one point up here. Your return to Slava is the biggest return so far at 186kmph. Does that shot constitute un-gentlemanly contact do you think? Is that un-gentlemanly?
(Murray) I missed her. The point before that, Laura gave me some bad looks that I had missed a shot on the point before. She looked over at me like I had done something wrong. So I thought that I better make up for it.
Well you certainly made up for it. You were making a lot of brilliant shots tonight. What would you give yourself out of ten for the singles and the doubles tonight?
(Murray) Oh I don’t know. I was very happy with the way I played in the singles and Laura helped me out a lot in the doubles tonight, so it was good all round. I was obviously happy to win in the end because it was a long day and I look forward to getting some rest.
Yes at 5 – 0 in the first set did you imagine such a finish? It was knife-edge stuff, the heart would have been going strongly.
(Murray) Well I’m going to blame it slightly on my partner. She took the start asking me if I moisturise my hands and I think maybe she lost her concentration a little bit. She’s only fifteen so I’ll let her away with it.
The mixed doubles, you said you hadn’t played too much before tonight, are you now a convert after that excitement there?
(Murray) It was obviously good fun and I really enjoyed it. It gets the adrenaline going when it was really close. The first mixed match I’ve won in a long time, so it’s good.
It was great. Are you ok fitness wise? You were grabbing a couple of body parts here and there, are you alright?
(Murray) Yeah I’m just stiff and she hit me on the back with her racquet as well. I didn’t think I deserved it. It was sore already because I was carrying it.
Give her a hug. Come on give her a hug. Congratulations Great Britain, Andy Murray and Laura Robson.
