Tommy Robredo
Courtside

Ladies and gentleman would you put your hands together for Tommy Robredo for winning one of the great matches at the Hopman Cup. Tommy it looked like winning that match after two and a half hours meant quite a bit to you. You look pleased.

Well yes because now I am tired and if I had to go to the mix having to win for sure, it would be so tough. Now that we won 2-0 at least I can take a relaxing shower and a bit of massage on the shoulder and everywhere. I am tired after playing two and a half hours for the first match of the year, it was really tough.  I’m so proud because playing against a player like John, it’s so difficult to keep focus all the time. He didn’t break me in all the match so it really made me so happy.

I guess returning serve against 210, 220k’s, you could hurt your shoulder?

No it’s not the problem of the shoulder. It’s a problem of playing like in the casino. You say if it is red or if it’s blue or if it’s black.

Just guessing which way to go?

If it’s black it’s the forehand if it’s red it’s the back and if you go to one side and then the other its ace. It’s really tough. When a guy like him always plays always over 200 and the ball bounce so hard, for players like me we have one back hand with one hand and the ball bounces higher than here, its really tough for us to hit. So I think I’ve done pretty good on the second serve and also the second set and finally on the third I could win but it’s always difficult with him.

Let’s have a look at the big screen for a moment – You did come up with some good passes, particularly in the third set. Were you pleased with your passing game today?

So-so. With a player like him if you have 5, 6 chances of making a passing shot in all the game or match, you have try to go to nearly 4 or 5. If you only put 2 or 3, then its ok but it would be better because when you have the chance to play the point with him and you have the chance to make a passing shot, its one of those small chances you have in a match to break him. I think I did a couple of long line back hands, then I missed two across a little bit, but I was hitting well. I think I did even-even.

At your age, at 27, you’ve already achieved so much in tennis. What are your plans for 2010?

I am still young. As you can see I’m putting cream on my face so it’s working. It’s working. I think that normally the players stop around 30, 31. I enjoy playing tennis so much, so for me I would love to keep playing a lot more if they respect me. I did great things in the past. I have been for nine years in a row top 30 in the world, which is amazing. Now that I’ve done all these things I would like to one day maybe make semi finals or a final grand slam – that’s one achievement that I’ve never done. It’s always nice to have new goals and for this year why not win more titles and another diamond ball. Its great to have it but it’s not safe to have it at home because every time someone comes to home you have to put in the safety deposit. It’s great to win titles and I have only 9 titles in my career in nine years so I would like to feed my career with a lot more.

Well you’ve start 2010 just the right way. Congratulations and go out there and enjoy the mixed double. Tommy Robredo.
