Vanessa Amorosi with Australias Number 1 Hit to Headline Hopman Ball
27/10/2009

Vanessa Amorosi

PERTH. Australia’s Vanessa Amorosi, whose current single “This Is Who I Am” is top of the Australian charts, will be the headline performer for the “It Takes 2 2 Tango” themed Hopman Ball. The 22nd Hopman Ball to be held on Saturday 2nd January at the Burswood Grand Ballroom will also feature the Hyundai Hopman Cup players in the Official Teams Presentation.

The theme “It takes 2 2 Tango” celebrates the 22 years of the running of the International Mixed Teams Championship and aligns with this year’s tournament theme of “doubles the action”.

In line with Amorosi’s forthcoming album titled “Hazardous”, which is also expected to rise to number one on the album charts, Hopman is turning the Ballroom into “Club 22” a hybrid of Nightclub and Theatre. Recreating the dramatic Latin feel of the glamorous supper clubs at the turn of the century…dark, seductive, glamorous and exclusive - Club 22 is the place to be seen!

The tango is a dance of passion and seduction:

Argentine Tango is an exciting Latin dance that originated in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina. No dance connects two people more closely than the Argentine Tango. Only originally danced in the bars and brothels of Buenos Aires, it was first a reflection of the immigrants’ loss and longing for the people and places they left behind.

The Argentine Tango is the most seductive couple dance to this day. Its passionate, melancholic and joyful roots are identifiably Argentinean and still ignite the tango excitement. New steps have been invented since the underground days making this Latin dance even more exciting and sensual. Tango once again is living, it is complex like its origins yet simple like an intuition. Something that yearns to be experienced... not taught.

Also, in 2009, the tango was declared as part of the world's "intangible cultural heritage" by UNESCO.
